Security professionals face the daily challenge of securing and optimizing vehicle flow at access gates. At Nedap, we are dedicated to provide innovative solutions that address this critical need. Our passive UHF RFID technology is specifically designed to offer ease of use and efficiency, helping you manage vehicle access seamlessly. In this article, we will compare two of our key UHF RFID products: the established uPASS Target and our newest offering, uPASS Go. This will help you determine which solution best matches the specific needs of your gate access situation.
Challenges in vehicle access control
Security professionals face daily challenges in managing safe and efficient access systems. Efficiently managing vehicle flows, especially at locations with high throughput such as logistics depots, industrial sites, and business premises, requires advanced solutions. We have an answer to these challenges with our UHF RFID solutions within the uPASS series, including uPASS Go and uPASS Target.
Applications for Nedap’s passive UHF RFID solutions
Nedap’s passive UHF RFID solutions use UHF (Ultra High Frequency) technology to identify vehicles. These systems transmit and receive radio signals to facilitate communication between the tag and reader, allowing identification over greater distances than traditional RFID systems. This makes them extremely suitable for a variety of environments where both convenience and efficiency are important. Read more about the solutions.
Depending on the complexity of the gate configurations and the required flow rate, users can determine which system best fits their specific needs. This allows the user to identify with one of the two products, contributing to a more effective implementation of their access control system.
uPASS Go: A cost-effective solution for long-range vehicle identification
uPASS Go is a cost-effective UHF RFID reader for long-range vehicle identification at vehicle access points. This reader is ideal for locations such as office car parks, gated communities, and public services (such as government buildings, police, and campuses). This advanced system offers a reading range of up to 10 meters, ensuring smooth traffic flow without vehicles needing to stop.
uPASS Go uses EPC Gen2 to ensure that only authorized vehicles gain access, optimizing site security and traffic flow. Specifically designed for situations where speed and reliability are crucial, uPASS Go is particularly suited for simple gate configurations where cars often need to pass quickly and efficiently.
uPASS Target: Optimized for complex or demanding gate configurations
On the other hand, uPASS Target is a long-range UHF RFID reader optimized for challenging or demanding gate layouts. It is a perfect solution for heavy vehicle environments such as industrial sites and logistics depots, where the system offers a reading range of up to 15 meters. Thanks to the long reading range, the reader can be placed behind the gate for added security and/or closer to a building.
Additionally, the support of PoE (Power over Ethernet) simplifies installation, as only one cable is needed to the router for both power and data. uPASS Target uses EPC Gen2 and is ideal for locations with complex gate designs where trucks and forklifts need to pass, requiring robust and reliable identification.
